The last price hike was just announced on January 1, 2021. The prices of the bikes were increased by almost the same amount. What frustrates the consumers is that despite the increase in prices, there is no improvement in the product quality. The only variation is a slight one, that too in the sticker design.

Nonetheless, Honda continues to lead the market by selling its bikes in huge numbers regularly. Enthusiasts demand better quality while the general consumers just want a vehicle to commute from one point to another. So, they want economical prices, which the automakers should keep in mind.

Note: Atlas Honda has not yet confirmed this news, but it is most likely to be true.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMC) has announced the first price hike of this year. Their previous price hike was in November 2020, when the prices of all bikes were increased by Rs. 3000.

However, this time, the price hike is even higher. The maximum bump is by Rs. 4000 which is for the GS-50 base version and the GS-150 SE. For the GR-150, the price was increased by Rs. 3000. GD-110 S can still be bought on the last price as there was no price increase for this model.

As per the announcement, the new prices will take prices will take effect from February 1, 2021. The following table consists of the old prices along with the revised prices.

The new prices will take effect from February 1, 2021 (today), and the following shall be the new prices of the bikes:

Model

Old Prices (Rs.) Revised Prices (Rs.)

Price Increase (Rs.)

GS-150

193,000 197,000 4,000

GS-150 SE

210,000 214,000

4,000

GR-150

287,000 290,000

3,000

It is worth mentioning that the GS-150 in both variants, base and SE, is the most popular bike from the Pak Suzuki bike line-up. It has a very strong powertrain. However, the increase in its price may affect the sales of this two-wheeler.

The GR-150 was unveiled in December 2017. It always had fans who were enthusiasts impressed by the bike’s top-notch performance. The price has always been a downside to this bike, just like the GD-110 S.

Pak Suzuki, just like its competitors, is known to increase prices of its vehicles without any improvement in the quality of the products. Let’s see how this issue affects the sales of Pak Suzuki.

Hi-Speed, owned by Raazy Motors (PVT) LTD is a renowned bike manufacturer of Pakistan. It is known for selling high quality locally produced bikes in Pakistan. It also has a few respectable Chinese bikes in its line-up. It imports it as CBUs and sells them in Pakistan. The products by Hi-Speed included bikes ranging from 70cc to 200cc bikes. It also has a few 2-wheeled loaders.

It recently announced a price hike for its entire bike line up. It is a massive hike, as the maximum price hike this time is said to be Rs. 20,000. As per the official circular, the new prices shall be effective from February 1, 2021.

As you can see in the circular that Hi-Speed indicates the deteriorating economy and business conditions to be the reason of this price hikes. Ironically, the periodic analysis of the rupee value against the dollar shows that the economy has seen stability after the lockdown was eased.

There is a high chance that other auto makers will increase the prices of their vehicles as well, as their first hike of this year.

This year was unenviable for all businesses. Same was the case with the auto industry. Not only did car manufacturers faced loss in sales, but they were also forced to increase the prices of their models multiple times. Such decisions had to be taken due to the COVID-19 effect and the high dollar rate.

The price hikes didn’t make the consumer community happy. However, that was expected. As this years nears its end, we can see a drop in the dollar rate due to the recent US elections. Surprisingly, Pak Suzuki still went on to increase the price of its bikes, again. This is the fourth hike in bike prices by this auto manufacturer.

Pak Suzuki issued a notice that notified the price of four models would be increased by PKR 3,000 w.e.f 1st November 2020. Interestingly, Pak Suzuki has not mentioned any reason behind this sudden increase in prices. The notification stated, “The above prices are subject to change without any notice”.

The new prices are mentioned below.

Variant Previous Price New Price
GD 110S 178,000 181,000
GR 150 284,000 287,000
GS 150 190,000 193,000
GS 150SE 207,000 210,000

These prices are inclusive of ex-factory and freight charges.

Recent losses Pak Suzuki suffered

In the last month, Pak Suzuki recorded its 8th consecutive quarter in a loss. In the third quarter of 2020, this Pakistani manufacturer posted a 12% decline in revenue. Last year, the revenue was Rs. 25.63 billion in the same period whereas in that period this year, the revenue is said to be Rs. 22.60 billion.

Other than COVID-19, the reason behind this decrease in sales is because Alto and Mehran are not being sold as much as before.

However, we hope that the auto manufacturer sort out their finances and do not rely on increasing prices of the vehicles as that will only make consumers walk away.
